Biden claims ‘only person calling to defund the police is Donald Trump’. Except – Biden is, not Trump.

The following editorial is written by a retired Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today

SOMEWHERE IN THE US- C’mon, man! If you have not figured out yet that there is something seriously wrong with Joe Biden’s mental acuity, we present the latest example of how far he’s gone. Biden claims that it is President Trump, not him who wants to defund the police.

While cities burned, people rioted and cops were assaulted all summer long, Biden was silent. In fact, all the Democrats were silent. Biden thinks so little of law enforcement that the violence was never mentioned during the four nights of the Democratic National Convention.

Yet, it is Biden who is claiming that he supports law enforcement and President Trump is the one seeking to defund police. We do not typically fact check statements, but this one is not only “pants on fire” but “Mach 2 with your hair on fire.”

In an interview Biden made the incredible claim after being asked about his statement that he wanted to “redirect” funding away from police agencies.

“I not only don’t want to defund the police, I’m the one calling for $300 billion—million more for local police, for community policing,” Biden told the news outlet. Meanwhile, he also accused President Trump of wanting to cut $400 million from “state and local help,” whatever that is.

According to Shore News Network, Biden stated that he would go along with calls from the radical Black Lives Matter group to redirect police funding to social service agencies and people such as social workers and psychologists in an ill-advised scheme to “help” police officers deal with violent criminals.

As anyone who works in law enforcement can tell you, that probably will not end well.

In a USA Today Op-Ed, Biden said that he did not support defunding the police. He said the alternative he was proposing would “give police departments the resources they need to implement meaningful reforms, and to condition other federal dollars on completing those reforms.”

Don’t believe us? Here are the two interviews back to back:

In other words, Biden would hold federal money such as Byrne Justice Administration Grants hostage to force police departments to comply with some no doubt over-reaching government mandates.

However, according to a Breitbart News fact check from July, Biden’s claim that he did not want to defund police is false. He also called police “the enemy.”

Biden’s claim is a red herring. President Trump has proposed cutting $244 million from the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), a program that assists state and local agencies detain illegal aliens who commit crimes.

That money would then be redirected for border enforcement, which would in essence put the money where it is needed and fund resources closer to the problem.

In addition, President Trump as proposed increasing funding to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by $544 million. Meanwhile, the Biden-Sanders Unity platform has proposed the elimination of ICE.

Considering Biden’s claim that the president wants to cut funding to police departments, isn’t it ironic that a number of police unions across the country have endorsed President Trump’s reelection.

One of those unions, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), which is the country’s largest police union, last week announced its support of the president.

“Public safety will undoubtedly be a main focus for voters in this year’s election,” FOP National President Patrick Yoes said in a news release.

“Look at what the national discourse has focused on for the last six months. President Trump has shown time after time that he supports our law enforcement officers and understands the issues our members face every day. The FOP is proud to endorse a candidate who calls for law and order across our nation. He has the full and enthusiastic support of the FOP.”

Yoes noted that the union surveyed 355,000 members prior to making the endorsement.

“During his first four years, President Trump has made it crystal clear that he has our backs,” Yoes said.

“Our members know that he listens to the concerns of our brothers and sisters in uniform and is able to make tough decisions on the issues most important to law enforcement. President Trump is committed to keeping our communities and families safe.”

Biden said in his op-ed that he does not support defunding the police, however, supports diverting dollars toward “mental health services drug treatment and prevention programs and services for people experiencing homelessness.” Biden also thinks that social service workers should respond to calls with police officers.

What that would mean is now police officers would not only have their own safety and welfare to deal with but also that of their ride-along passengers.

And one can certainly imagine a scenario when an incident rises to the level of an arrest, and some namby-pamby, left-wing, do-gooder social worker interjects themselves in the incident. It will happen…write it down.

The Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force manifesto is instructive as to what exactly Biden and the Democrats have in mind. Defunding the police is often thought to mean “monetary” defunding, but in reality, it is also a defunding of assets.

One proposal involves creating a “civilian corps of unarmed first responders” that would ostensibly respond to “non-violent” emergencies, which includes “order maintenance violations.”

Think restraining and protective orders…you know, the kind of order that Jacob Blake was violating when he pulled a knife on responding officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin which led to his getting shot. Do not think for a minute that the creation of such a “civilian corps” would not lead to an impact on police budgets and manpower.

The manifesto also calls for removal of so-called “weapons of war” that police departments are able to obtain under a federal government surplus program.

This includes vehicles such as armored personnel carriers which are typically used in high-violence probability scenarios, including the violent riots that we have seen over the past nearly four months. Some departments have also been able to obtain patrol rifles that they would not otherwise be able to afford through the surplus program.

The manifesto includes all manner of oversight and restrictions, many of which would lead to overhead for states, cities and towns which would redirect money from police budgets. It is unlikely that these funds would be provided by the federal government, and as Biden has already admitted, these monies would come with plenty of strings attached.

Defunding also includes the defunding of the criminal justice system in whole, including the elimination of cash bail and prohibiting incarceration for failure to pay fines or fees, or allows for the suspension of driver’s licenses. Money would also be redirected to more public defenders to oppose criminal justice enforcement.

The manifesto would also eliminate qualified immunity, which would make police across the country subject to frivolous lawsuits and require them to put their assets at risk, including their family fortunes, their homes, and their pensions. That is also defunding the police.

Biden can spin it any way he wants to, but an overwhelming majority of police officers know that Biden and Harris are not on their side.

For him to claim that he does not want to defund the police and Trump does, shows clearly that the man is not in touch with reality.
