RALEIGH – President Donald Trump is continuing to harangue Governor Roy Cooper for assurances that the RNC 2020 in Charlotte will not be restricted by the governor’s lingering coronavirus restrictions. Cooper responded Wednesday at a press briefing, and now the Democrat’s reluctance to lift restrictions on assembly and certain unfortunate businesses is now in the national lime light.
Predictably, the Left-leaning media is intent upon making Trump’s approach look reckless and cast Cooper taking the high road to save lives.
“I hope that we can find some kind of reasonable accommodation,” Cooper said at a press conference. “But we’re not going to sacrifice the health and safety of North Carolinians, and that’s the bottom line.”
Except, Governor Cooper’s approach to shutting down the state in a one-size-fits-none approach has been sacrificing livelihoods and exacerbating non-COVID public health issues the entire time. The response did not match our state’s disease profile at all, but it aligned very well with the approach of other Democratic governors around the country. Don’t worry; Cooper says it’s not political.

It is clear to anyone paying attention that the distinct pandemic responses of governors are most definitely political. There is a blatantly obvious divide between the approach of Democratic governors and Republican governors with respect to lockdowns and social distancing mandates.
While Republican governors of our neighboring south eastern states have been faster to acknowledge their State’s real risk profile and open back up, Cooper follows the lead of Democrats in the Northeast and on the West Coast in keeping North Carolina locked down for longer. If Cooper really believed what he said — that pandemic response should not be political — then his response would align more with similar surrounding states than it did with that of New York City.
While Cooper dithers regarding the RNC, those other governors are letting the president and GOP that they’d be happy to host them massive political convention in their states.
“Florida would love to have the RNC,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told reporters this week. “The door is open. We want to have the conversation, whether it’s RNC, DNC, whatever, because I think it would be good for the people of Florida.”
And Georgia Governor Brian Kemp invited the RNC to the Peach State.
With world-class facilities, restaurants, hotels, and workforce, Georgia would be honored to safely host the Republican National Convention. We hope you will consider the Peach State, @realdonaldtrump!

These two Republican governors were lambasted as wantonly sacrificing human lives by ending unconstitutional lockdowns that were destroying livelihoods. The trends since reopening these states are shining examples of how wrong the fear mongers have been, and how wrong Governor Cooper’s approach has been for North Carolina.
But when your North Carolina governor launches his reelection campaign with a ritzy event in New York City, it’s little wonder that he embraces policies more at home in the liberal North East.
