In spite of the fact that President Joe Biden has threatened the livelihood of social media influencers on TikTok by proposing a ban on the platform, the White House continues to woo these individuals within the network.
They summoned a group of approximately thirty social media influencers to the White House for a special briefing, during which they discussed the new idea that the president has proposed to cancel student loans, as The Daily Mail reported.
At the beginning of the week, the President and Vice President Kamala Harris made an announcement regarding their intention to eliminate an additional $7.4 billion in student loan debt outstanding by 277,000 borrowers.
From the Briefing
During the briefing, prominent political influencers such as Harry Sisson, who has more than 850,000 followers on TikTok, and Vitus Shehar, who has more than three million followers on TikTok with Under the Desk News, were there.
There were approximately thirty social media influencers who were invited to the White House to discuss the topic of student loan forgiveness.
Also in attendance was Neera Tanden, who is also a member of President Biden’s Domestic Policy Council.
Additionally, Viviann Anguiano, who is the Director of Education on President Biden’s Domestic Policy Council, both gave speeches to the group.
Assurances Given
Together, they gave the group the assurance that, as a result of the efforts taken by President Biden, they, along with other young people in the United States, would not be required to pay back a portion of their student loans.
Despite the fact that not all of the influencers were now in the process of paying off their student debts, some of them were more excited about the news because it directly affected them.
According to one individual who was present, there were some members of the group who were concerned because they were aware that the Supreme Court had already thwarted Biden’s initial attempt to cancel educational loans.
Assuring them that they were utilizing different authorities this time in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling, the White House had answers for some of the influencers.
From the Influencers
Anguiano stated that they believed the ruling to be incorrect and that they were using different authorities, and some seemed hopeful.
“We’re doing everything we can to ensure that — as we view broader fixes on our proposals that those are being provided and the relief is being provided to borrowers,” she said.
Despite the fact that there is a high probability that the plan would be challenged in court, the White House continues to move forward with the student loan issue.
This may easily result in the plan being pulled back. On the other hand, it is quite probable that the president and his staff will be able to acquire the political benefits of the problem in time for the election in 2024.
