Unemployed former quarterback Colin Kaepernick is STILL trying desperately to get back onto the football field, and this time the 32 year old will be at a ‘private workout’. It takes place in Atlanta where each of the 32 teams have been invited. Reports are that Dallas, Miami, and Detroit are expected to have representatives present.
The NFL set up the workout after discussions with Kaepernick representatives in response to an Oct. 10 statement by Kaepernick’s representatives, who said they had received “little to no response” from the 32 NFL teams.
The NFL stated: “Earlier this year, we discussed some possible steps with his representatives and they recently emphasized his level of preparation and that he is ready to work out for clubs and be interviewed by them. We have therefore arranged this opportunity for him to work out, and for all clubs to have the opportunity to evaluate his current readiness and level of interest in resuming his NFL career.”
Sources told ESPN that Kaepernick and his representatives were alerted to the workout at 10AM Tuesday. By 4PM ET the same day, a personnel notice that was sent to teams. The workout will be conducted by former NFL coaches, although the exact names have not been finalized. It will will be closed to the media, but a training tape will be produced that will be sent to each team.
The Dallas Cowboys will have a representative at free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s weekend workout, a source confirms to WFAA Sports. Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia confirmed that the team would send representatives to Colin’s workout as well.
“As an organization, we always do our due diligence on all players that are available … so I know [Bob Quinn] and his staff will have someone down there to watch the workout and we’ll see where that goes.”
The Miami Dolphions have also confirmed that they would represent.
Panthers safety Eric Reid, one of Kaepernick’s biggest supporters, said the workout “feels like a PR stunt” by the league. Reid stated that Kaepernick will be ready for it regardless. “We’ll see if it’s a real process,” Reid says. “We’ll see if it’s a real event.”

Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played football since the 2016 season, when he was fired by the San Francisco 49ers. In October of the 2017 season, Kaepernick filed a collusion complaint against NFL owners claiming he had been blackballed by owners for protesting against police brutality and for social justice reforms during the national anthem. In February of this year, that complaint was settled.
This should be interesting. I have been pretty good at predicting ‘All things Kaepernick’ because much of it is basic business.
I said years ago, that no team would want the media circus that Kaepernick has tied himself to, no matter how well he plays. The NFL doesn’t want it either. The moment he is hired, the good, the bad, and the ugly are to follow. The logistics involved would be complicated. The kneeling issue has died down and so have the financial consequences that it brought.
What does the team and the league do if they decided to hire him. Make it a prerequisite that he keep his politics off the field, or just let him do what he is going to do?
I would stand to the death alongside Kaepernick to express his First Amendment right to protest in accordance with his belief. He should not have done it on his employer’s clock. Do it off the field. If a bank teller started foisting their politics on each customer that came to the teller window, they would be fired. It would not because of their beliefs, it would be because it was not their time, or audience, to take.

Another possibility is that Kaepernick, having been off the field and outside the REAL NFL regimen for 3 year, might just choke, ending it all. He has made a concentrated effort to continue to the best of his ability a strong consistent physical training routine. But can it sincerely rival that of which an NFL player has access too in all areas? I am thinking no matter how much effort he has put in on his own, it can’t compete in reality.
I give it a good chance he totally chokes.
Sorry Colin Kaepernick. You made this bed. I don’t think you will ever play again, and you did that to yourself. You cannot blame anyone else.
I’m just getting word from my representatives that the NFL league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday. I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday.
