Ocasio-Cortez ‘squad’ holds media conference to denounce President Trump’s tweets

Four of the Democratic freshman members of Congress targeted by President Donald Trump in a tweet fired back in a media conference on Monday.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) said that she would only refer to the president as the “occupant” of the White House because he “only occupies the space,” and told the media not to take the bait from his tweets.
“He does not embody the grace, the empathy, the compassion, the integrity that that office requires,” she explained.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) decried the president for the raids on illegal alien homes by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the weekend.

She claimed that the president had launched a “blatantly racist” attack in order to distract from the conditions at border detention centers, and other actions by the White House.

Omar went on to say that the president was advocating the “agenda of white nationalist.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) addressed the criticism that if they don’t love the country they should leave it.

“We’re focused on making it better,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “Because we don’t leave the things that we love. And when we love this country, what that means is we propose the solutions to fix it.”

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) also addressed the tweet at the conference.

“Sadly, this is not the first, nor will it be the last time we hear disgusting, bigoted language from this president,” she said. “We know this is who he is.”

The president had tweeted his reaction to the four freshman dissidents against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Sunday.

“So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” he tweeted.

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” he added.

The president later doubled down on the comment despite the tide of criticism in the media.
