Amid a heated national abortion debate, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Corey Booker (D-NJ) is unveiling sweeping a campaign platform that entails the development of a White Office devoted to advancing abortion rights.
“On Day One, I will create a White House Office of Reproductive Freedom, charged with coordinating and affirmatively advancing abortion rights and access to reproductive health care across my Administration, addressing all barriers to full reproductive autonomy, such as access to health care, including maternal and infant health quality, affordable child care, and comprehensive paid family leave,” Booker vowed in a statement Tuesday.
“It has never been more important to stand in solidarity and join the fight to ensure that all women have access to reproductive health care and abortion rights. These far-right attacks on women’s rights must be understood as an attack on all of our rights.”
The New Jersey Democrat’s plan would annul President Donald Trump’s pro-life executive orders that prohibit federal funds from assisting organizations that promote or provide abortions, mandate employer health plans to cover the cost of contraception and repeal the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal funds to pay for abortion except to save the lie of a woman of if pregnancy arises from incest or rape.
Booker’s abortion campaign pledge comes after pro-life laws in Alabama, Ohio and Georgia sparked upheaval amongst pro-choice activists and feminists groups over the states’ restriction of abortion to the first few weeks or the illegalization of abortion altogether.
Last week, the presidential contender also penned a proposal for GQ warning men that women deserve autonomy of their bodies.
“Men, it’s on us to listen, to speak out, and to take action. Not because women are our mothers, sisters, wives or friends – but because women are people. And all people deserve to control their own bodies,” Booker wrote.
Democrats are increasingly explicit in their support for killing unborn children at any stage of pregnancy and are even attempting to deny adequate normal medical care to born children.
In January, New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a legalizing abortion until the ninth month, and even after the unborn child is viable, terminating the procedure is permitted so long as the abortionist makes a “reasonable and good-faith judgment” that the abortion will protect the pregnant women’s health.
Earlier this year in Virginia, state legislator Kathy Tran introduced laws that would make abortion legal even at term and in the middle of birth. Governor Ralph Northam supports that laws, arguing abortions late in the pregnancy would be performed in cases in which the unborn child is severely deformed and parents should be permitted to withhold medical care if the infants are fully delivered.
