Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) threw some serious shade at freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) during an interview on CBS News’ “60 Minutes” on Sunday.
Reporter Lesley Stahl asked Pelosi about House Democrats being divided, pointing to Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist agenda as evidence, and whether Pelosi can unify her party’s various factions.
“By and large, whatever orientation they came to Congress with, they know that we have to hold the center. That we have to be m– go down the mainstream,” Pelosi said.
Stahl pressed Pelosi on whether they really knew that, to which Pelosi responded, “They do.”
“But it doesn’t look like that. It looks as if it– you’re– it’s fractured,” Stahl said.
Stahl then asked Pelosi about the AOC wing of the Democratic Party.
“That’s like five people,” Pelosi interjected.
“No, it’s– the progressive group is more than five,” Stahl said.
“Well, the progressive– I’m a progressive. Yeah,” Pelosi responded.
