Arizona Terrorism Arrest – Teen Ismael Hamed, from Throwing Rocks to ISIS

On January 7,  18 year old Ismael Hamed called 911 several times to get a Maricopa county deputy to come and talk to him. At 5:35 p.m., a deputy arrived at the Fountain Hills substation, according to AZ Family. But Hamed really didn’t want to talk, he wanted to attack.

When the deputy arrived at the substation, Hamed began throwing rocks at him. Then the teen pulled out a knife. Repeated attempts to make the teen drop his weapon went unheeded. The suspect advanced toward the officer, so the Sergeant, a 12 year veteran of the force, discharged his weapon and “incapacitated” the suspect.

Hamed was transported to the hospital, treated, and released. He was taken to the Maricopa County jail and held on a $500,000 bond.  At the time, he faced charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Assault on a police officer. But on Monday, the situation changed.

On Monday, two Felony Terrorism charges were added against Ismael Hamed.

According to Blue Lives Matter,

The terrorism charges were filed separately on Tuesday, according to KNXV.

Court records showed the first terrorism charge accused Hamed of providing “advice, assistance, direction or management to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).”

The second terrorism count was related to his actions at the sheriff’s substation on the night he was shot, the Arizona Republic reported.

“It’s too early to know what all of the facts are, but this is absolutely consistent with somebody answering a call for Jihad on a lone wolf basis,” former U.S. Attorney Andrew Pacheco told KTVK.

“ISIS in particular encourages people to launch their own attacks. At the police or anybody else that they think are worthy targets.” Brad Garrett, former FBI agent to ABC15

Authorities only said that Hamed was in the process of radicalization. The judge has ordered the   information on their evidence sealed.
