Amy Coney Barrett was Donald Trump’s third Supreme Court pick.
Trump might not be so happy with that decision right now.
And Amy Coney Barrett is going to give Biden one scary power.
Joe Biden won in 2020 in large part thanks to online censorship of conservatives.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg told Joe Rogan that the FBI pressured the platform to censor any forthcoming reports about Hunter Biden because it would be a Russian info drop.
When the New York Post dropped its bombshell report about emails on Hunter Biden’s laptop connecting Joe Biden to an alleged pay-for-play scheme in October 2020, Facebook and Twitter responded by banning anyone from sharing the story.
Conservatives continued to fight the censorship industrial complex into the Biden administration.
Missouri and Louisiana sued Joe Biden after uncovering proof that the administration twisted the screws on social media companies to censor conservatives over their opposition to Joe Biden’s COVID mandates.
A federal judge issued an injunction stopping the administration from pressuring social media companies into taking down posts.
This fight is now before the Supreme Court.
Justice Samuel Alito came down on the side of Missouri and Louisiana saying there is no way the print or broadcast journalists would accept the government dictating to them what they can publish.
“I cannot imagine federal officials talking like that to the print media. If you did that to them, what do you think the reaction would be?” Alito stated. “It is treating Facebook and these other platforms like they’re subordinates. Would you do that to the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal or the Associated Press or any other big newspaper or wire service?”
Alito also noted that social media companies weren’t in a position to turn down censorship requests from the government.
That’s because Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act grants tech companies immunity from lawsuits and Alito pointed out that tech executives had a reasonable fear an administration could threaten to repeal Section 230 if they didn’t comply with censorship demands.
Justice Amy Coney Barrett delivered a gut shot to conservatives by agreeing with the need for online censorship.
Barrett completely mischaracterized the matter before the Court saying it would be reasonable for the government to request social media companies take down posts that reveal an individual’s private information.
“Another early indication of trouble for the red states and conservatives complaining of censorship came when Justice Amy Coney Barrett said she believed that the lower courts had made errors. She also expressed concern that the rationale behind the suit could prohibit government officials from reaching out to social media platforms about individuals being doxxed, or publishing someone’s personal information online with malicious intent,” Barrett said during oral arguments.
But this case is about the government censoring political opponents for engaging in protected speech.
Joe Biden wanted to silence opponents of COVID vaccine mandates and other restrictions.
The founders wrote the First Amendment to restrict government, not the people.
Barrett either forgot or doesn’t care that the First Amendment exists for this very scenario where the government acts like a Ministry of Truth and tries to impose an official narrative that Americans aren’t allowed to contradict.
