In the latest survey by PDK International, a professional education association, shows that a majority of parents want school choice, dealing another blow to public education and the teachers’ unions. Overall, 59 percent of parents said that they “probably send to private or religious school,” if they were offered public funds to do so. Republicans were at 71 percent while Democrats were a surprising 47 percent, indicating that they are tiring of underperforming public schools.
On the question of parent satisfaction, 100 percent of parents of private school students said they were “somewhat” or “very satisfied” with the amount of say they have in their child’s education, compared to 59 percent of those in public schools.
The one positive note for public education is parent’s support for the Department of Education (DOE). Only 22 percent abolishing the DOE, which may be partly due to the uncertainty of education funding if the department is eliminated, as well as the methodology the Trump administration has employed to date to fulfill a pledge President Reagan made more than 40 years ago.
