A spokesperson for Kamala Harris confirmed Friday that her Secret Service protection has been revoked by President Donald Trump. The move comes just days before her scheduled book tour.
The spokesperson told Fox News there was no explanation given for the removal. Harris had previously been protected since leaving office as vice president in 2025.
A senior White House official noted that former vice presidents typically only receive Secret Service coverage for six months after leaving office. Harris, however, had been granted additional time under a Biden-era order.
That extension came through an executive memorandum signed by former President Joe Biden before leaving the White House. The order gave Harris an extra year of protection beyond the normal six months.
But on Thursday, Trump rescinded Biden’s memorandum. Harris’ protection is now set to officially end on Sept. 1, according to officials briefed on the matter.
The timing coincides with Harris’ upcoming book tour for 107 Days. She is expected to make appearances in New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles in late September.
Meanwhile, the Secret Service notes that former presidents and their spouses receive lifetime protection unless they decline. Former vice presidents do not share the same security guarantee.
