A federal investigation is underway in Nevada, where dozens of cremated human remains were recently found on a dirt road.
KLAS reported that the 70 piles of ashes were located outside Searchlight. While it is not illegal for an individual to scatter ashes, the Bureau of Land Management said it is investigating the incident.
The agency confirmed to KLAS that the piles are human cremations. KLAS also reported that some of the ashes appeared weathered due to sun and rain exposure.
According to the news outlet, no identifiable information was left behind. Some of the piles contained zip ties, while a broken urn was also recovered from the site.
KLAS reported that an anonymous viewer provided them with pictures of the ashes. Reports indicated that there is no evidence linking the remains to a recently-closed funeral home.
