A “traveling” illegal alien thief whom the police have likened to a gypsy was busted this week with thousands of dollars of stolen jewelry.
Marcu Rostas, a 33-year-old Romanian national, was pulled over Monday in Martin County, Florida, and found to be in possession of over $400,000 in stolen jewelry, mainly tucked inside a stuffed animal toy.
According to a press release from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office published on Facebook, he specifically had on him “high-end watches, a $40,000 diamond ring, gold chains, gold coins, and $30,000 in cash,” in addition to “multiple fake identifications.”

Some of the jewelry was reportedly being worn by his children, who were in the car with Rostas along with his wife, Natasha.
“During this arrest, detectives discovered that the suspect’s 10-year-old son was wearing one of the stolen Rolex watches valued at more than $40,000, and his young daughter was wearing a stolen high-end necklace,” according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
His arrest came a day after he stole jewelry from a store in the nearby town of Stuart on Sunday.
“He is wanted in multiple states for similar crimes,” the police noted in their press release.
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer has since been placed on Rostas.
According to the cops, he’s “part of a larger network of traveling distraction thieves, sometimes referred to as ‘traveling gypsies,’ who move through the United States, targeting unsuspecting victims by using deceptive tricks to steal large amounts of money or valuables.”
“These thieves often work in groups and may include women, children, or elderly accomplices who help create diversions,” the Martin County Sheriff’s Office press release explains.
“While one member distracts the victim, another quietly steals jewelry, cash, or other valuables within seconds. They hit jewelry stores, retail facilities, and sometimes private homes,” it continues.
Speaking later with local station WPBF, the owner of the jewelry store, Beryl & Co. Jewelers, that Rostas allegedly stole from on Sunday, described how uneasy he made her feel:

“I just had that gut‑wrenching feeling that he got away with something,” store owner Shae Miedzianowski said, adding that Rostas had spent 20 minutes inside her store. “He showed all the signs of someone trying to do us wrong.”
Surveillance footage from inside the store reportedly showed Rostas hiding a $15,000 necklace in one hand while speaking with an employee of the store moments before leaving.
Miedzianowski subsequently called the police on him.
“Around the same time, the sheriff’s office received a tip from Collier County about a vehicle traveling across the state,” according to station WPBF. “Deputies caught up with the suspect [Rostas] as he tried to enter Florida’s Turnpike in Palm City.”
All this comes roughly two weeks after two other Romanian illegal aliens were arrested in Florida for racking up a $13,000 tab on their stolen EBT food stamp cards:

A week or so before this arrest, another seven Romanian illegal aliens, part of a group called the Romanian Theft Group, were caught in Massachusetts, according to Breitbart.
“This burglary ring will no longer be able to victimize American citizens,” Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
“These criminal illegal aliens should never have been allowed to walk free on Massachusetts streets to steal from Americans — and under President Trump and Secretary Noem, they won’t,” she added.
She was right. In May, President Donald Trump reportedly removed Romania from the fed’s Visa Waiver Program (VWP) because of national security concerns.
“Maintaining the Visa Waiver Program’s high standards is essential to our national security,” McLaughlin said at the time. “In light of this Administration’s focus on border and immigration security, the Secretary of Homeland Security has decided, in consultation with the Secretary of State, to rescind Romania’s VWP designation effective immediately.”
