A deadly shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis has left two people dead and 17 injured.
The attack occurred during morning Mass at Annunciation Catholic School, where a shooter opened fire through the church’s stained-glass windows.
Fox News coverage of the tragedy has since gone viral over the use of “their” to describe the trans-identified shooter.
Authorities identified the suspected shooter as 23-year-old Robin Westman, who was formerly known as Robert Westman.
Mike Cernovich reported on X, “A high level FoxNews executive (might even be in HR) has a ‘trans’ kid,” adding, “That’s why everyone on air is scared shitless to call this trans shooting what it is.”
“She makes the trans issue a personnel issue, and everyone is afraid to be on the wrong side of her.”
Following the tragedy, MSNBC host Jen Psaki, who served as White House press secretary under President Joe Biden, faced backlash for her reaction on social media.
Psaki posted, “Prayer is not freaking enough. Prayers does not end school shootings. prayers do not make parents feel safe sending their kids to school. Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers.”
Her comments drew widespread criticism from conservative leaders and commentators.
Sean Davis, CEO and co-founder of The Federalist, responded, “Ask yourself how an actual demon would respond to Christian children being martyred by a demon-possessed monster. Probably with explicit mockery of God and prayer.”
“Then ask yourself why Psaki’s response is exactly how an actual demon would respond.”
Amber Duke, senior editor at the Daily Caller, also pushed back against Psaki, writing, “You don’t understand prayer and what it’s for so kindly keep your bigoted thoughts to yourself until you can circle back with something more intelligent to say.”
Psaki’s statement was similar to remarks made by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
The mayor addressed reporters after the shooting, saying, “Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying.” He continued, “It was the first week of school. They were in a church.”
Frey did place blame on the gunman, stating, “This kind of act of evil should never happen, and it happens far too often.”
At the same time, he used the moment to call for stronger gun control measures.
The White House also responded to the tragedy.
President Donald Trump issued a statement calling for prayers for the victims, their families, and the community.
He additionally ordered that flags at the White House be lowered to half-staff in honor of those killed and injured, per the Western Journal.
The attack is one of the deadliest incidents at a Catholic school in the United States in recent years.
Families of the victims are receiving counseling, and religious leaders in the Minneapolis area have organized vigils and prayer services.
Annunciation Catholic School announced that classes would be suspended until further notice.
Local officials confirmed that counseling and grief services will be available to students, parents, and staff affected by the violence.
Police confirmed that Westman is alleged to have opened fire from outside the church while services were underway.
Investigators discovered that Westman left behind an 11-minute YouTube manifesto.
According to reports, the video included troubling language and references to religion, politics, and violence.
Officials are reviewing the recording as part of the investigation.
The shooting took place as students, staff, and parents gathered for worship in the school’s sanctuary.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted, shattering glass and sending people scrambling for cover.
A parent who witnessed the attack told the Minnesota Star-Tribune, “He just pepper-sprayed through the stained-glass windows into the building, 50 to 100 shots.”
The gunman’s bullets struck parishioners, leaving multiple victims injured before law enforcement was able to respond.
Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk reported that the suspect wrote phrases on weapons used in the attack.
These included “Kill Trump Now!,” “McVeigh,” “Where is Your God?,” “Burn Israel,” and “6 million was not enough.”
Kirk added that the suspect had attached an image of Jesus’s face to a human-shaped target.
