What’s popular right now isn’t a TikTok trend or a celebrity scandal—it’s President Trump’s push to bring law and order back to America’s streets. And judging by his tone, he’s willing to do whatever it takes.
During a three-hour cabinet meeting at the White House Tuesday, Trump floated the idea of extending the National Guard deployment in D.C.—and even suggested rolling out the death penalty for convicted murderers in the District. When asked about police shortages and whether the “Defund the Police” movement played a role, here’s part of what he said:
That, it seems, is just the beginning. The Trump administration is drawing up plans to clean up the streets of Chicago—D.C.-style—with the National Guard’s help.
According to officials, planning has been underway for weeks, with a launch date as early as September. The mission would serve two purposes: cracking down on violent crime and assisting ICE with deportations.
Trump has long alluded to cleaning up Chicago, mentioning it back on August 11 when he deployed the Guard to D.C.—calling it a blueprint for other Democrat-run “crime pits” like Los Angeles and Chicago. Over the weekend, he ramped up his comments again, and during the cabinet meeting Monday, he floated the possibility of waiting until Chicago asks him for help—though everyone knows that won’t happen.
Listen:
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson want nothing to do with Trump—or with fighting crime, it seems. Their record says plenty. Illinois is projected to spend $2.5 billion on migrant care by the end of 2025, much of it in Chicago.
Meanwhile, Johnson and his predecessor Lori Lightfoot slashed a combined 1,400 police positions. Add to that a refusal to arrest low-level offenders to make crime numbers look better—and the result is clear: Chicago has led the nation in homicides for 13 straight years. Nearly 600 people were murdered last year alone. But Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries still dismisses it as a “manufactured crisis.” Imagine saying that to the families of 600 victims.
Violent crime has soared in Chicago over the past decade, while arrests have cratered. Aggravated assaults hit a 20-year high in 2024, yet arrests happen in only one out of seven violent crimes. Why? Democrats have tied law enforcement’s hands, limited the force, and overwhelmed a system drowning in crime
.
But instead of asking for federal help, Pritzker and Johnson pour more energy into hating Trump than helping their own people. In fact, Johnson urged Chicagoans to “rise up” against Trump’s plan—though his own approval rating sits at a measly 26 percent.
Trump didn’t mince words, calling Johnson a “grossly incompetent” mayor. He repeated that phrase Monday, mocking Johnson’s shaky grasp of facts.
And Johnson’s not alone. Pritzker has been parroting the “dictator” talking points, and Trump let him have it too.
But rather than focusing on public safety, Pritzker staged a press conference aimed solely at attacking Trump and denying Chicago’s crime problem.
Pritzker went so far as to accuse Trump of “inciting violence”—for the crime of suggesting the law be enforced. Meanwhile, Pritzker himself promised to “fight back.” Against what? Justice? Accountability? Isn’t that incitement? The cameras caught one unintentionally hilarious moment during his remarks.
Watch:
No, Pritzker isn’t living rent-free in Trump’s head. It’s the other way around—Trump is paying rent in Chicago, with the right and responsibility to want the streets cleaned up.
The problem with Illinois’ leadership is that it’s all politics. Real lives are on the line while Johnson and Pritzker waste billions on woke priorities. Trump, meanwhile, is listening. He says Chicagoans—especially Black women—are practically screaming for his help. Danielle Carter, co-founder of Chicago Flips Red, says she feels heard.
It’s the same story as D.C.—Black residents are disproportionately affected by violent crime in neglected communities. Yet the “Black Lives Matter” crowd conveniently leaves that fact out. This isn’t just a problem for one community—it’s a problem for all Chicagoans. And despite Democratic claims that crime is down, residents themselves say it’s not.
The voices of everyday Chicagoans couldn’t be clearer: they’re fed up with the bloodshed, the fear, and the excuses. Trump hears them. He’s proven in D.C. that action works, turning chaos into calm practically overnight. He’s not about to let Pritzker and Johnson stand in the way forever.
The reality is simple: Democrats would rather spend billions on illegal migrants and woke talking points than save American lives. Trump would rather save the city. Chicago is about to feel a new breeze of law and order—and if Trump has his way, it’ll be beautiful.
