Vanity Fair Staff Members Say They’ll Quit If Melania Trump Is On The Cover

The new head of Vanity Fair reportedly wants First Lady Melania Trump to be featured on the magazine’s cover, which has led to employees threatening to “walk out the motherf*cking door.” One employee said that putting her on the cover would be to “normalize” Trump.

Vanity Fair editor Mark Guiducci has reportedly expressed an interest to people in putting Trump on the cover, per Semafor. However, one mid-level editor told the Daily Mail in the wake of the report, “I will walk out the motherf*cking door and half my staff will follow me.”

“We are not going to normalize this despot and his wife; we’re just not going to do it. We’re going to stand for what’s right. If I have to work bagging groceries at Trader Joe’s, I’ll do it. If [Guiducci] puts Melania on the cover, half of the editorial staff will walk out, I guarantee it,” the staffer, who remained anonymous, continued.

One employee added, “It’s all talk. If they put her on the cover, people will protest and gripe about it, but I don’t see anyone quitting such a prestigious job over that. Honestly, there will be people who push back, but it’s ultimately Mark’s decision. He’s the one who will sink or swim over that choice, not the rest of us.”

In Trump’s first term, the First Lady was notably absent from the cover of Vanity Fair and fellow Conde Nast magazine Vogue. This was in stark contrast to Michelle Obama, who was featured on Vogue’s cover three times during her time as first lady, per the New York Post. After Trump’s first term in the White House, Jill Biden also received a cover during her time as first lady. Melania Trump, however, had a career as a cover and fashion model.
