STERLING HEIGHTS, MI – A tragic accident claimed the life of a 41-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man on Thursday when he came into contact with a power line while operating a mechanical lift. The incident occurred at Phoenix Parts, a used auto parts business situated in an industrial area near Metro Parkway and Mount Road.
The victim, who was performing landscaping work, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released his identity. The scene, captured by aerial footage, showed investigators and DTE Energy workers assessing the site, with the mechanical lift visible in the background.
Local police have launched an active investigation to determine the specific circumstances that led to the fatal incident. DTE Energy confirmed that the deceased was a member of the public and extended their condolences to his family and friends.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident and are working closely with local authorities to understand how it happened,” a DTE representative stated.
Witnesses reported that the man was elevated on the lift when he likely made contact with the live wire, although details remain under investigation. The area is known for its industrial activities, and safety protocols are being reviewed in light of this tragedy.
Phoenix Parts, the business where the accident occurred, has not issued a public statement yet. Employees at the scene appeared shaken as they continued to assist investigators.
