Former Vice President Kamala Harris is facing backlash as she launches a global book tour to promote her memoir about her failed 2024 presidential campaign.
Harris, 60, announced a 15-city tour beginning Sept. 24, a day after the release of her book “107 Days.”
The memoir promises a “behind-the-scenes” look at what Harris calls “the shortest presidential campaign in modern history,” according to a post on X.
The announcement included a short montage of Harris smiling on the campaign trail. Social media users quickly mocked the post as tone-deaf given her crushing loss to President Donald Trump.
“Never seen someone celebrating an L like that lol,” one user quipped. Another called it “the loser tour.” A third joked, “How to blow 2.5B in 107 days,” referencing the amount Harris’ campaign spent.
Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) called Harris’ book tour “a nationwide comedy tour,” criticizing the former vice president for turning a devastating defeat into a publicity campaign, as the New York Post reported.
Deputy White House Press Secretary Abigail Jackson questioned the purpose of the tour.
“She’s doing a tour about how she lost?” Jackson wrote. “Does her team have 0 self-awareness or do they just hate her? Because nothing says kicking off your 2028 campaign like a book tour about how badly you lost the last election.”
Conservative commentators also joined the criticism. Stephen L. Miller, host of the Versus Media Podcast, said, “Because if this last election taught us anything it’s that people want to hear more from her.” The comment reflected a sarcastic tone aimed at the former veep’s perceived self-promotion.
Harris defended her tour, stating that she wants to share lessons learned and ideas for how the country can remain united. She emphasized that her memoir offers insight into her campaign experiences and hopes to provide guidance for moving “forward together.”
Harris entered the 2024 race after President Joe Biden ended his re-election bid on July 21, 2024, just 107 days before the election. The announcement came less than a month after Biden’s poor debate performance against Trump, which had left Democrats scrambling for a replacement candidate.
Early media coverage and some polls initially suggested Harris could gain traction against Trump. Reports showed she briefly led her Republican opponent, drawing excitement from the Democratic base.
However, those gains proved short-lived. Harris ultimately became the first Democratic candidate in 20 years to lose the popular vote, cementing her campaign as a historic defeat for the party.
Despite the criticism, Harris is pressing ahead with her international tour, which will take her to New York, Canada, Washington, DC, London, and other major cities. The tour is scheduled to conclude in Miami on November 20.
Harris’ book and tour have sparked renewed debate about her political future. Critics say the focus on her defeat undermines her credibility, while supporters argue it offers transparency about her experiences on the campaign trail.
The launch has ignited social media reactions, with users and politicians weighing in on the strategy.
For Harris, the tour represents a high-profile effort to remain relevant in national politics and possibly set the stage for future campaigns.
