The Washington Post has finally ripped away the thin veil it hides behind. In a sprawling, nearly 2,500-word piece, the Post whined that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s security detail is too large, too costly, and too “taxing” on the protective unit tasked with guarding Pentagon leaders. And in doing so, it broadcast sensitive details about his protection — effectively painting a target on his back.
Think about that for a moment. This isn’t just biased coverage or snide editorializing. This is the nation’s most powerful liberal paper effectively telling the world: “Here’s how Pete Hegseth is guarded, and here’s where he goes.” If that sounds like a blueprint for someone with bad intentions, that’s because it is.

And let’s not pretend the Post doesn’t know exactly what it’s doing. This is the same press corps that spent the last year demonizing Hegseth as some hard-right menace. They’ve caricatured him as a “polarizing” figure, attacked his military credentials, and painted his Trump-aligned Pentagon as dangerous. Now, after turning him into a villain, they’re essentially saying: “By the way, here’s how he’s protected.”
The Department of Defense didn’t mince words in response. DOD spokeswoman Kingsley Wilson blasted the Post directly: “By publishing details about Secretary Hegseth’s security protocols, the Washington Post is actively putting him and his family in danger for clicks. These ‘reporters’ are disgusting.”
She’s right. This is reckless, dangerous, and yes — it reads like an assassination dog whistle.
Meanwhile, the hypocrisy is staggering. The Post has no problem with trillions wasted on bloated social programs, welfare fraud, abortion funding, or even funneling tax dollars to left-wing media like NPR and PBS. But spend money to keep a Republican secretary of defense alive? Suddenly they’re fiscal hawks. Suddenly they discover “waste, fraud, and abuse.”
These are the same people who cheered on the riots of 2020, who applauded lockdowns that closed your church and your business while liquor stores stayed open, who defend open borders and hand-wring over deporting violent criminals. These are the same people who turned Donald Trump into a cartoon villain for eight years and whose rhetoric has already nearly gotten him killed — not once, but twice.
Now they’re playing the same game with Pete Hegseth.
