Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid narrowly avoided injury in May 2024 when a bullet pierced his office window at the team’s practice facility, according to a report published Wednesday by The Kansas City Star.
Reid, who was alone at the time, was not struck, and no injuries were reported. The bullet lodged into the wall between his office door and a bathroom, the outlet said.
Police confirmed that two additional bullets hit the facility during the same incident. The Kansas City Police Department told the newspaper there is “no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization.” The case is being investigated as an aggravated assault.
The Chiefs have not commented publicly on the matter. No arrests have been made.
The shooting came just months after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers, a game in which Kansas City rallied for a dramatic comeback.
Reid, 67, is widely regarded as one of the NFL’s all-time great head coaches. Over his career with the Philadelphia Eagles and Chiefs, he has compiled a 301-146-1 record, including the postseason. With Kansas City alone, he has posted a 143-53 record and delivered three Super Bowl championships.
