Texas state Republicans in the state House on Wednesday evening advanced their controversial redistricting map, which would potentially give their party a chance for five more congressional seats in the 2026 midterms.
The move comes after the redistricting effort came to a standstill in the lower chamber earlier this month, after more than 50 Texas Democrats fled the Lone Star State to block the redistricting map from passage.
State lawmakers advanced the map to a final vote along party lines in an 88-52 split, according to The Hill.
The final vote is expected to take place later Wednesday. It will then move to the state Senate where it is expected to easily pass.
