On Wednesday’s Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough lit into California Governor Gavin Newsom’s latest online gambit: playing Donald Trump on X, complete with all-caps eruptions.
Scarborough was unimpressed. “Democrats are trying to find their footing, and it’s quite embarrassing, actually,” he said. “Gavin Newsom — have you seen what he’s doing online? Just take a deep breath. Don’t spin the ship around. They don’t know what to do. Here’s an idea: instead of trying to ‘school Donald Trump,’ talk into the camera about affordability. Talk about making groceries like more affordable. Talk about what you’re gonna do for housing. Talk about what you’re going to do for energy prices that continue to go up,” he said.”
Then came the jab: “Donald Trump’s not on the ballot in ’26 or ’28 — why drag Muhammad Ali into the ring when you’ve got Chuck Wepner right there?”

In one post, Newsom’s press office responded to a picture of Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin from the White House Rapid Response account by posting, “TINY HANDS IS OUT HERE COPYING ME — BUT WITHOUT THE STAMINA (SAD), AND CERTAINLY WITHOUT THE ‘LOOKS.’ TOTAL BETA! — GCN.”
The message included an image of Newsom putting his finger to Trump’s chest as Trump is doing in the photo with Putin, which was taken during their recent summit in Alaska.
