A Georgia woman did not have the support of her husband after she was accused of repeatedly beating her 14-year-old grandson.
Patricia Green, whose age was not provided, was arrested on Sunday on one charge of cruelty to children. According to an incident report obtained by local CBS affiliate WRDW, Burke County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from a counselor at Burke County High School on Friday regarding a 14-year-old student. When deputies arrived, the boy was in the counselor’s office to report that he was being abused by Green, his grandmother.

Police said that the boy had a busted lip, a head laceration, and bruising to his left forearm when they saw him. According to the report, the boy said Green beat him on a daily basis. The head laceration seen by police was allegedly caused by Green hitting him with a dust pan. He told police that Green was a heavy drinker and would become violent after she drank.
WRDW reported that the boy told police that his grandfather would try to intervene, but that Green would then turn on him and direct her physical violence toward him. She would also reportedly call the police on him, explaining that his grandfather had been arrested before.

When police questioned the boy’s grandfather at the home where the family lived, he reportedly told police of the boy’s claims, “Whatever he told you is the truth.” He further explained to police that Green would become angry over not receiving child support payments; according to the report, the boy’s parents were unable to care for him and his grandparents had full custody of him along with another child.
The grandfather reportedly corroborated the boy’s claim that Green allegedly beat him almost every night. He also told police that Green did not act violently towards the other child. According to the incident report, the grandfather felt that the 14-year-old boy should report the alleged abuse to a school counselor because he could not help him enough.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office got a warrant for Green, who was not at the home when police spoke to her husband, and arrested her on Sunday for cruelty to children. She was released on bond.
WRDW reported that Green was employed by a local hospital and had been suspended while she was being investigated.
