Our good friends on the left — and I include the recent neoconservatives, who are not really conservative in very much among the left — are up in arms that the wicked, evil, hated President Donald Trump is trying to get at least a ceasefire, and possibly a lasting peace agreement, between Russia and Ukraine, claiming that such would lock-in Russia’s conquests of roughly 20% of Ukraine. The Editorial Board of The Philadelphia Inquirer, about which I would have written yesterday but was afraid of sounding like a broken record, was simply the latest.
The left are just deathly afraid that Mr Trump might win the Nobel Peace Prize, said to be one of his heartfelt desires, as though promoting peace is somehow a bad thing. But the President said that he just loved stopping wars!
President Trump to Mark Levin: ‘I Love Stopping the Wars’
by Joel B Pollak | Tuesday, August 19, 2025
President Donald Trump told conservative radio host Mark Levin on Tuesday that he was optimistic about solving the war between Russia and Ukraine — the latest in a series of peace deals that he has pulled together.
Earlier this month, Trump brokered a deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, ending decades of conflict — just one of several wars he has stopped or prevented.
Trump told Levin that his method in peacemaking relied on “instinct, more than process,” drawing on a career of dealmaking to bring conflicting parties together.
“I like doing it — I love stopping the wars,” Trump said.
Let’s tell the truth here: while the President and his Administration have gotten some deals done to at least reduce the killings, they might not hold over the long term. Nevertheless, some of them actually might. Part of the motivation behind Hamas attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, was the fear Iran had that Saudi Arabia might join the Abraham Accords, brokered by the United States during the President’s first term. President Joe Biden’s State Department said, through spokesman Ned Price, “The United States will continue to urge other countries to normalize relations with Israel” and that normalization is “not a substitute for Israeli-Palestinian peace… We hope that Israel and other countries in the region join together in a common effort to build bridges and… contribute to tangible progress towards the goal of advancing a negotiated peace between Israelis and Palestinians.” The Abraham Accords were certainly not perfect or a complete solution, but they were something, and the Democrats continued to trash them.
The New York Times wrote that “[r]ather than viewing it as a serious blueprint for peace, analysts called it a political document by a president in the middle of an impeachment trial working in tandem with Mr. Netanyahu, a prime minister under criminal indictment who is about to face his third election in a year”.
Translation: the left were thoroughly eaten up with #TrumpDerangementSyndrome, so that anything he touched was automatically evil.
Solving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine had proven more difficult than anticipated, he said — made even more difficult, he suggested, by the false accusations of collusion that had haunted his first term. But he remained optimistic that it could be done, especially after the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week, and the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders on Monday.
“We’re going to try and stop it, and I think we have a good shot.” He said he would like to see what might happen if Putin and Zelensky met “without me,” in a bilateral conference (as opposed to a trilateral meeting).
Will it work? Well, who knows, but at least the President is trying to stop the killing, something the left are not, still whining about how evil
Soviet Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is, but never offering a plan to enable Ukraine to reverse its losses and actually win the war.
I’ve said it many times before: the only way Ukraine can reverse its losses and reclaim its lost territory is for American and/or NATO ground troops to move in and fight the Russians directly . . . and that’s World War III. No one on the left will admit that, but they offer no other plan other than sending more money and equipment to a Ukraine which is suffering from serious manpower shortages. What good is more equipment if you don’t have the soldiers to use it?
Trump also spoke about how he had worked with Israel’s “war hero” prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to free some of the Israeli hostages from Hamas — though 50 still remain, 20 of them still thought to be alive.
He praised the success of the American pilots who had carried out the successful strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, but warned that Israel might have to continue fighting Hamas if it hoped to free the hostages.
Mr Trump has made some noises here, but our good friends on the left, while they keep combitching about the devastation and ‘genocide’ Israel is inflicting on Gaza, they somehow never mention that the war would end, immediately, if Hamas surrendered in a war they have already lost, and freed the remaining hostages. Those sympathizing with the ‘Palestinians’ apparently want Israel to stop while Hamas still exist, and allow Hamas to retain their one workable ‘tool’ in the war, the hostages, and prefer that the war and the killing continue rather than admit Hamas’ defeat.
And, of course, they hate that the United States seriously damaged Iran’s nuclear weapons project, though the most they can actually say in public is that the project was only seriously delayed and not completely destroyed.
Ukraine has not yet been defeated, but they are slowly losing more territory, and have no foreseeable capacity to reverse that trend. Warmonger and neocon John Bolton, who himself did everything he could to avoid service in Vietnam, fantasized:
Ukraine must have assurances that European and U.S. military assistance will continue at appropriate levels to allow them to resist further Russian advances, and begin regaining lands, to achieve the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s stated goal of restoring the country’s full sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Mr Bolton, who just loves sending Other People and Other People’s children to fight in wars, something he was too chicken to do himself, has presented no plan for Ukraine to achieve what he said they must achieve, but wants the fighting to continue, the blood to keep flowing.
President Trump is at least trying to get the killing stopped, and if his motive is self-aggrandizing, a desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, why should anyone care if it gets the killing stopped? Do the left really hate Mr Trump so much that they’d rather see more and more blood flowing than the President get some credit for stopping a war?
