A “reckless” mother in England has been jailed for 10 years after a horrific crash that killed two teenagers and left a community devastated.
On Monday, Aug. 18, 36-year-old Natasha Allarakhia, from the village of Postwick near Norwich, was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court for causing the deaths of William Ray, 17, and Eddie Shore, 18, in a two-car collision on June 20, 2024.
According to Lincolnshire Police, Allarakhia was speeding down the A17 toward Sleaford around 9:40 p.m. when her Audi Q2 slammed into the back of a Ford Fiesta that had stopped at temporary traffic lights. The impact was so severe that both William and Eddie later died in the hospital from their injuries.
Investigators revealed that construction signs had clearly warned of the temporary lights ahead, but Allarakhia ignored them. In fact, data from the Audi showed she was driving at over 90 mph in a 60 mph zone and only hit the brakes less than two seconds before the crash. Prosecutors said she was drinking from a can of alcohol while driving, with her two young daughters — aged 7 and 12 — also in the car.
Incredibly, two other teenage passengers in the victims’ car survived but suffered serious injuries.
After the collision, Allarakhia initially tried to blame a mysterious man she called “Jay,” claiming he was behind the wheel and fled the scene. She later admitted she had been driving when confronted by officers.
Detective Sergeant Kate Johnston of Lincolnshire Police condemned her behavior, calling it “reckless, selfish, and dangerous.” Johnston added, “Because of her utter disregard for the safety of others, two teenagers with their lives ahead of them were cruelly taken from this world. Her actions have left families devastated and her own children traumatized.”
The court also heard that Allarakhia laughed after passing a roadside breath test, showing what prosecutors described as a “contemptible disregard” for the lives she had taken.
Alongside her 10-year prison sentence, Allarakhia has been banned from driving for 12 years and eight months and must pass an extended re-test before she can legally drive again.
William Ray’s grieving mother, Sarah, paid tribute to her son, saying, “Will was not just my only son, he was also my best friend and I love him dearly. I will never get to see him graduate, get married, or build his future. He was so caring, compassionate, and full of life. I just miss him so much — his smile, his cheekiness, his friendship.”
Eddie Shore’s family also mourned the devastating loss, as the community struggles to come to terms with the tragedy caused by one mother’s reckless choices.
