OAKLAND, CA – An Oakland jewelry store owner is grappling with the aftermath of a bold daylight robbery that left his business in ruins. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. Monday in the Little Saigon neighborhood, where armed suspects executed a smash-and-grab heist.
The thieves drove a vehicle into the front of the Kim 10 Jewelry store, leaving behind a scene of twisted metal and debris. Jason Dou, the store owner’s son, described the chaos, saying his father was alone in the store when the vehicle crashed through, pushing counters and machinery across the room.
Once the vehicle reversed, approximately eight armed individuals, dressed in black and wearing ski masks, stormed the store. While holding Dou’s father at gunpoint, the robbers ransacked the premises, smashing displays and seizing jewelry and cash.
The suspects abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled in other cars. “It’s terrifying,” Dou remarked, noting the potential for greater tragedy had customers been present. “It’s a miracle my dad is still alive.”
The store, which opened in January, represented the life savings of Dou’s father. In the robbery’s wake, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to rebuild the business. “We’ve always relied on the Oakland community for support, and we’re hoping to continue to do so,” Dou said.
Fortunately, Dou’s father only suffered minor injuries during the ordeal. Oakland police are actively investigating the incident.
As the community rallies around the family, questions about safety and security in the area intensify. The brazen nature of the crime has raised concerns among local business owners.
Despite the setback, the Dou family remains determined to recover and continue serving their community. Their resilience and hope reflect a broader spirit of unity and support within Oakland’s Little Saigon.
