Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner on Tuesday confirmed his department is making English the sole language for its services, which comes after President Donald Trump designated English as the official language of the U.S.
Trump signed the executive order in March, and the Justice Department last month said it would lead the federal effort to implement the order. Before the order, the U.S. never had an official language.
“Following [the president’s] Executive Order Designating English as the Official Language of The United States, HUD will solely use English for all Departmental business and services,” Turner posted to X. “We are one people, united, and we will speak with one voice and one language to deliver on our mission.”
The confirmation comes after the New York Post reported on the internal memo on Sunday. The memo went out Monday.
