When President Donald Trump vowed to clean up the streets of Washington D.C., he wasn’t messing around, and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi just proved that the administration’s strategy of federalizing the police there is working quite well.
According to The Hill, Bondi announced that on Saturday evening alone, 68 people were arrested in the nation’s capital, bringing the total since the National Guard was sent to intervene to over 300 arrests.
Bondi announced that, so far, various types of dangerous criminals have been arrested, including drug traffickers and homicide suspects.
Democrats have pretended to be outraged at the idea of federalizing the capital’s police forces, but reportedly, behind closed doors, many Dems have agreed that the city is a complete mess and something needed to be done.
What’s happening?
Bondi made the announcement of the Saturday night arrests in an X post, bringing attention also to the number of people who have already been cuffed and charged amid Trump’s D.C. crackdown.
“Over 300 arrests in D.C. — and counting: Just last night, our federal and DC law enforcement partners made 68 arrests and seized 15 illegal firearms. Homicide suspects, drug traffickers, and more are being charged,” she wrote on X.
“I’ll continue to stand with you as we make DC safe again!”

The Hill noted:
But Republicans and the administration have argued the federal crackdown is a necessary step given high murder and crime rates in D.C., while suggesting that Democrats running cities have done a poor job handling the issue.
Saturday night’s law enforcement actions reportedly included over 1,800 personnel. It was also noted that at this point, National Guard troops are assisting but not making arrests.
Social media responds
Users across social media had plenty to say about Bondi’s announcement.
“Love it..But question..Are they staying in jail until their court date..And being convicted of what they did. Or are they being released, or charges being dropped or downgraded like usual?? I like the headline, but what about the follow up??” one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, “Washington DC is our Capital, if not safe, the USA is not safe. D. C. must be clean and safe, thank you for your relentless efforts and dedication in the work you do.”
It’ll be fascinating to see the overall results of Trump’s federal intervention.
