This November, American Catholic youth attending a national conference will have a special digital meeting with Pope Leo XIV, who will greet the Indianapolis-based attendees through a livestream, according to an Aug. 15 press release from EWTN Global Catholic Network.
The Pontiff’s first digital visit will take place Nov. 21, when attendees of the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) will gather in Lucas Oil Stadium to watch the live address, the release states. Up to 15,000 youth may be in attendance, according to the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM).
“We are humbled and thrilled to welcome the Holy Father to NCYC,” Christina Lamas, Executive Director of NFCYM, said in the NFCYM Aug. 15 press release. “His presence is a profound reminder that young people are at the heart of the Church and that their voices matter.”
Pope Leo will give opening and closing remarks, as well as a blessing.
NFCYM stated in the release that the Holy Father is also expected to “engage directly with [the youth] during a 45-minute live dialogue,” and that several young people “will be chosen to directly converse with Pope Leo during the session.” Information on the selection process will be revealed soon.
EWTN Global Catholic Network is the media partner for the Pope’s meeting with the youths. EWTN CEO Michael Warsaw said the presentation is a special opportunity for the young people, and the company is honored to help facilitate it.
“As we continue to grow and adapt our media platforms, serving younger audiences has become an essential part of our mission,” Warsaw said. This historic encounter will not only inspire young people but also invite them more deeply into the heart of the Church.”
As CatholicVote previously reported, Pope Leo made his first non-live digital address in June at the Illinois-based White Sox Rate Field, during an event hosted by the Archdiocese of Chicago celebrating the new pontiff. The Pope, a native of Chicago, dedicated much of the address to encouraging young people in building faith and community in their lives.
“To, once again, the young people who are gathered here, I’d like to say that you are the promise of hope for so many of us,” he said in the recorded message. “The world looks to you, as you look around yourselves, and says, ‘We need you.’ We want you to come together, to share with us in this common mission as Church and in the society, of announcing a message of true hope, and of promoting peace, promoting harmony among all peoples.”
