Hold onto your hats, folks—Washington, D.C., just became the epicenter of a law enforcement storm as Attorney General Pam Bondi dropped a bombshell about nearly 200 arrests in a matter of days.
Fox News reported that under the Trump administration’s bold move to federalize the city’s police force, a massive operation involving multiple federal agencies has netted 189 suspects so far, targeting everything from violent crime to drug trafficking.
This all kicked off on Monday when President Donald Trump invoked emergency powers under the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, taking control of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) for a 30-day period.
Hundreds of National Guard members descended on the city alongside heavy hitters from the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Capitol Police, creating a show of force that’s hard to ignore.
By Wednesday night, the operation was in full swing, with nearly 50 arrests in a single evening, including 29 unauthorized migrants nabbed in the sweep.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) alone accounted for 75 of the total arrests, bolstering MPD patrols and manning checkpoints across the District.
Cracking Down on Crime Hotspots
Attorney General Bondi didn’t mince words when she announced the numbers on Friday, revealing a breakdown that includes two homicide suspects, 17 suspected drug traffickers, 39 alleged illegal gun offenders, and two sexual predators.
“This is what happens when you actually enforce the law,” Bondi posted on X, and frankly, it’s hard to argue with results like these when the streets are visibly getting a long-overdue cleanup.
Her second post on X, “We’re taking back our Nation’s Capital!” hits the nail on the head—D.C. has been a sore spot for safety, and this operation seems determined to change that narrative.
Just a day before her big announcement, Bondi rescinded protections for unauthorized migrants in D.C., signaling a sharp turn away from so-called sanctuary city policies that many conservatives see as magnets for crime.
Her order, dubbed “Restoring Safety and Security to the District of Columbia,” also lifted restrictions on MPD’s cooperation with federal immigration authorities, a move long overdue in the eyes of those frustrated by progressive agendas.
On Thursday, Bondi went further, appointing an emergency police commissioner to oversee the MPD, a decision that’s raised eyebrows but also promises accountability.
Leadership Shakeup at MPD Helm
DEA Administrator Terry Cole is stepping in to replace Metro Police Chief Pamela Smith, whose reluctance to work closely with federal immigration officials drew sharp criticism from those who prioritize border security.
With 189 arrests “and counting,” as Bondi put it, this operation shows no signs of slowing down, and it’s clear the administration is betting on tough enforcement to turn D.C. around.
While some may cry foul over federal overreach, the numbers speak for themselves—turns out, actions do have consequences, and lawbreakers are finally feeling the heat in our nation’s capital.
