The White House of President Donald Trump is urging Republicans in the state of Indiana to take up redistricting before the 2026 midterm elections.
Politico reported as much on Friday.
Whether or not Indiana Republicans are going to heed the White House’s call is something that remains to be seen.

Background
There are various redistricting battles that are taking place across the country. The one in Texas, in particular, has garnered a lot of attention considering that Democrat lawmakers fled the state in order to stop the effort.
In recent weeks, there have been reports that the Trump White House has been encouraging Indiana Republicans to redistrict.
“Vice President JD Vance met Thursday with Gov. Mike Braun and state legislative leaders as the White House ramps up pressure on Republican-led states to redraw their congressional maps,” CNN reported earlier this month.
The outlet continued, “But Indiana’s GOP leaders didn’t commit to giving President Donald Trump’s administration what it wants: a mid-decade effort to turn the two Democratic-held House seats in the Hoosier State into right-leaning districts.”
Apparently, Trump has kept the heat on.
The latest
Politico released a report on Friday detailing how the Trump White House has continued to pressure Indiana to take up redistricting.
“White House Intergovernmental Affairs Director Alex Meyer in his personal capacity has called several lawmakers in the state pressing them to redistrict, according to a person familiar with the calls granted anonymity to discuss them,” Politico writes.
That’s not all. It also appears that Trump has invited some Indiana Republicans to the White House to discuss the situation.
Per the outlet:
The White House is also inviting Indiana Republicans to a meeting in Washington, according to invitations reviewed by POLITICO. More than four dozen — including the state House speaker and Senate president — have agreed to attend and two have declined, according to a Republican close to the White House.
It remains to be seen whether Indiana will get on board. What we do know is that the Democrats – particularly in California and New York – are not shying away from such redistricting efforts, which is why it would be wise for Republicans to do the same.
