President Donald Trump’s recent decision to federalize law enforcement in the nation’s capital in response to violent crime has drawn cheers from the right and, not surprisingly, jeers from the left.
However, there can be no doubt that those behind the push to clean up Washington, D.C., mean business, as evidenced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s decision to level a felony charge against a man who berated a federal agent and hurled a sub sandwich at him on Sunday night, as the Daily Mail reports.
Felony charge leveled
The allegedly criminal conduct of Sean Charles Dunn was caught on camera, capturing the moment he forcefully whipped his Subway order directly at the law enforcement officer’s body.
Dunn was heard calling the agents “fuc*ing” fascists and shouting the word “shame” as he initiated his unconventional protest.
Though Dunn may have thought he was engaging in some kind of flippant display of resistance, Pirro says that the subsequent felony charge lodged against him has likely prompted a reassessment.
“He thought it was funny. Well, he doesn’t think it’s funny today, cause we charged him with a felony,” Pirro noted.
In the wake of Dunn’s arrest, Pirro said in a video announcement, “We’re gonna back the police to the hill. So there, stick your Subway sandwich somewhere else.”
Defending the push
Trump has long hinted that he hoped to take decisive action to remedy deteriorating conditions in the beleaguered district, saying in January, “We will rebuild our once-great cities, including our capital in Washington, D.C., making them safe, clean, and beautiful again — and we want to make this city again safe.”
He continued, “We don’t want people coming to Washington and getting mugged, shot, killed. We’re going to stop it.”
That perspective is clearly supported by Pirro, who took reporters to task earlier this week when they questioned the administration’s approach to the situation.
Pirro had little patience with their skepticism, saying, “Oh, stop it. We are putting all kinds of resources onto the street.”
When asked about a purported drop in crime across D.C., Pirro said, “It’s never enough. This changed. This changed. It’s never enough. You tell these families [of murder victims in the district], ‘Crime has dropped.’ You tell the mother of the intern who was shot going out for McDonald’s near the Washington Convention Center, ‘Oh, crime is down,’” later adding, “No, that falls on deaf ears and my ears are deaf to that and that’s why I fight the fight.”
What’s next?
Pirro appears to be focused on a host of issues in her new role in addition to supporting Trump’s crime crackdown in the capital.
Speaking to conservative commentator Benny Johnson this week, Pirro hinted that she is also knee-deep in a probe of Sen. Adam Schiff regarding allegations that he leaked classified information to the media to further the Russiagate hoax, noting that such an investigation is in her “wheelhouse” and pledging, “When I have the evidence and enough to go forward, you will hear from me loud and clear.”
