First lady Melania Trump has issued a billion-dollar legal threat against Hunter Biden following his public statements connecting her to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
The unprecedented legal action represents one of the most significant defamation threats involving members of America’s most prominent political families, per reports.
The dramatic escalation comes after the younger Biden made unsubstantiated claims during a media appearance that Epstein introduced Melania to then-businessman Donald Trump.
The allegations have sparked intense debate across social media platforms and news outlets nationwide.
Hunter Biden’s controversial statements were reportedly made during an Aug. 5 appearance on Channel 5 with host Andrew Callaghan.
The interview, which has garnered millions of views across various platforms, contained multiple explosive claims about the Trump family’s alleged connections to the disgraced financier.
The former president’s son alleged that Trump and Epstein maintained a close relationship, then made specific claims about the first lady’s introduction to her future husband.
These assertions directly contradict previous accounts of how the future president and first lady met in New York’s social circles.
“They knew each other well, they spent an enormous amount of time together,” Biden stated during the interview.
Biden continued his assertion by referencing unverified claims from author Michael Wolff, saying, “According to his biographer, Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania, that’s how Melania .. the first lady and the president met.”
Melania Trump’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, responded swiftly with a strongly worded legal demand letter dated Aug. 6.
The letter, first obtained by Fox News, gave Hunter Biden until Aug. 7 to comply with the first lady’s demands for retraction and apology.
Brito characterized Biden’s statements as “false, defamatory, and lewd” in the legal correspondence.
The attorney accused Hunter Biden of leveraging his family name for personal attention, writing that Biden published the statements “to draw attention to yourself.”
The legal document suggested a pattern of behavior involving the exploitation of political connections for media exposure.
Modern technology has amplified the reach of such statements far beyond traditional media boundaries, creating new challenges for reputation management.
Brito noted that the video containing the allegations “has since been re-published by various media outlets, journalists, and political commentators with millions of social media followers.”
The first lady’s legal team claims the statements have reached “tens of millions of people worldwide” through various media channels.
The Daily Mail highlighted that as of Wednesday evening, the Channel 5 episode containing Hunter Biden’s statements remained available on YouTube, indicating no compliance with the retraction demand.
The outlet further noted that Biden’s claims originated from allegations made by author Michael Wolff during a July appearance on a Daily Beast podcast.
Wolff, known for his controversial books about the Trump administration, has faced criticism for previous claims that lacked substantiation or verification.
Wolff suggested that both Epstein and Trump were connected through a “model agent” who facilitated the introduction between the future president and first lady.
The Daily Beast initially published Wolff’s claims but subsequently issued an apology and retraction.
Brito’s letter describes the financial and reputational damage allegedly caused by Biden’s statements as “overwhelming.”
The attorney demanded that Biden issue both a “full and fair retraction” and a public apology for his claims about the first lady.
