The mother of a 10-year-old boy she reported missing last week has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Felicia Gross, 33, also faces charges of abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and falsely reporting an incident, WDRB reported.
Gross reported her son, Jayden Spicer, missing on August 6, saying the boy had disappeared after she and her husband went to bed the night before, as CrimeOnline reported. She appeared sobbing at a neighbor’s that morning asking to borrow a phone to call police.
A day later, she provided a handwritten message to media asking anyone with information to come forward.
An extensive search involving drones, dogs, and personnel ensued, and on Wednesday afternoon, the boy’s body was found 19 miles from his home. Police said they had “received new information” leading them to search a “heavily wooded area” along Canoe Road in Jackson.
Spicer’s body has been taken to the state medical examiner’s office while Gross was booked into the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard.
