(DCNF)—Socialist Democratic New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani is setting off on an anti-Trump tour in New York City beginning this week, the New York Times (NYT) reported on Monday.
Mamdani’s tour, called “Five Boroughs Against Trump,” will be centered around him trying to oppose President Donald Trump’s political agenda, according to the NYT. The tour will include a visit to Manhattan on Monday, as well as stopping in Brooklyn on Tuesday, Staten Island on Wednesday, the Bronx on Thursday and Queens on Friday, the outlet reported.
Mamdani is also set to begin his tour with endorsements from three Democrats: former Manhattan borough president Ruth Messinger, New York City Councilman Keith Powers and New York State Assemblyman Harvey Epstein, according to the NYT. Messinger notably was the 1997 Democratic New York City mayoral nominee and lost to then-incumbent Republican Mayor Rudy Giuliani by a landslide margin of 17 percentage points.
Trump has previously referred to Mamdani as a “communist.” Similarly, House Speaker Mike Johnson told the Daily Caller News Foundation in July that “Comrade Mamdani’s extreme views are bad news for New York City,” but will spell “great news for House Republicans” in the 2026 midterm elections.
The 2025 Democratic New York City mayoral nominee has previously made several anti-police statements, sparking backlash. Mamdani has also faced criticism from fellow Democratic lawmakers over his far-left agenda, including from some members of his own party.
Some prominent Democrats have notably yet to formally endorse Mamdani in the highly-anticipated New York City mayoral race, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. Hochul said during a Fox News interview on Sunday that she and Mamdani “still have many differences,” adding “I don’t know how you whitewash that away.”
During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker blasted Mamdani for claiming in June that he thinks billionaires should not exist.
“Look, how much money you have doesn’t determine what your values are,” Pritzker said.
“It does not matter what your income level is,” the Illinois governor added. “What matters is what your values are. And that’s what makes me a Democrat.”
Still, many Democrats view Mamdani as a rising star in politics.
Mamdani’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
