Watchman’s Daily Devotional: Just as a City Wall Could Be Entered Through a Breach, Making It Vulnerable to Enemies, So Our Spiritual Walls Can Have Dangerous Breaches

As a city wall can be breached by foes, so can our spiritual defenses. Today’s verse made me ponder why God didn’t consider Jeremiah and Ezekiel spiritual bridges. That wasn’t their job. They were termed proclaimers, not repairers. They told folks what was coming and why.

What would a breacher look like? King Hezekiah and Josiah converted the people from paganism to the one true God, delaying judgment. They led the nation to follow the prophets and widen the gap. God declared there was no leader to turn the people. No one in David’s house was bold enough to spearhead a return to God against the culture.

God wants a leader wherever you dwell. Hearing their vision and seeing their causes will identify them. Nationwide repercussions will be seen. Pray for the leader. You can encourage them or write a note. It blesses your nation. Naturally, the opposite is true. Some leaders increase the gap. As the late rulers of Judah did, they can quickly destroy a nation.

³⁰ And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.
