Police captured a Montana man Friday, wanted in connection with an Anaconda bar shooting that left four people dead.
Michael Paul Brown, 45, was arrested around 2 pm on Friday after a week-long manhunt. Police located him in a structure that had previously been cleared, south of Highway 1 near Ranch Bar in Anaconda, according to KRTV.
As previously reported by CrimeOnline, Brown is believed to have entered the Owl Bar, where he killed Daniel Baillie, 59; Nancy Kelley, 64; David Leach, 70; and Tony Palm, 74. Officials stated that Brown lived next door to the bar and was likely a frequent customer.
Earlier this week, Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen said 250 officers were searching for Brown on the ground, who was considered armed and dangerous.
Police have not yet released a motive However, Brown’s niece, Clare Boyle, mentioned that he suffered from significant mental health challenges, including schizophrenia and PTSD from his service in the Army, the Associated Press reports.
During a news conference Friday, Montana Governor Greg Gianforte, Attorney General Knudsen, and Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Attorney Morgan Smith praised the hard work of all involved.
They commended the “brave men and women in uniform” who swiftly acted and noted the cooperation among federal, state, and local agencies.
Brown is reportedly being held at the Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center. His official charges are pending.
