What is Don doing?
President Donald Trump appeared atop the White House on Monday, surveying the grounds like a man considering the next brushstroke on a national canvas.
Poised above the West Wing and the press briefing room, Trump stood in clear view of the reporters clustered below on the lawn. Security was tight — and understandably so, given the exposure.
He conferred with several figures on the roof, though the White House declined to name them or share the substance of their conversation.
The moment came on the heels of Trump’s announcement that he, along with private donors, will foot the estimated $200 million bill for a new White House ballroom.
“Just another way to spend my money for the country,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday, adding, “Anything I do is financed by me.”
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Thursday that construction will begin in September and be “completed long before the end of President Trump’s term.”
It’s not his first flourish. Earlier this year, Trump paid for two 88-foot American flags to flank the White House, each soaring symbol reportedly costing $50,000.
