The chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota is calling for an end to what he described as a “growing pattern of harassment and intimidation” directed toward leadership and staff at their Edina office.
On Friday, Alex Plechash called for bipartisan condemnation of the repeated “insults and hostile actions” targeting the GOP at the office building it shares with dozens of small businesses, including several youth counseling services.
According to Plechash, the harassment has included “hateful slurs and aggressive protests outside party headquarters.”
The GOP said disruptive protests at its office building have evolved into “punctured tires, staff vehicles being targeted on social media, papers being thrown at us through our office door and failed attempts to intimidate our young staff members.”
Nazi imagery at office building
A social media post by the Minnesota GOP on Friday also showed a sticker with Nazi imagery that the party claims was affixed to public spaces inside the office building, including on handicap-accessible doors.
“This is not a political debate. It’s harassment,” Plechash said. “Week after week, our staff faces terrible insults and hostile actions just because they work for the Republican Party. We will not be intimidated, and we will not let those who spread hate silence our voices. Minnesotans deserve better than this dangerous rise in our politics.”
Plechash called on Minnesota DFL Party Chair Richard Carlbom to publicly condemn the actions.
“Remaining silent during these attacks only encourages those who want to make harassing staff members a political tool,” said Plechash. “We urge all leaders, regardless of their party affiliation, to come together in support of civility, respect, and the safety of every Minnesotan involved in the political process.”
Alpha News reached out to the Minnesota DFL Party on Friday requesting comment. Communications staff for the organization haven’t yet responded.
The Minnesota GOP’s public statement comes about a month after several left-wing organizations held a protest outside the GOP’s headquarters where they alleged that Republicans were “ultimately responsible” for the June 14 assassination of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark.
“Disagreement is part of living in a Constitutional Republic, but intimidation is not,” said Donna Bergstrom, deputy chair for the Minnesota GOP.
“These attacks on our staff cross every line of decency and civility. We urge every elected leader, regardless of party, to join us in condemning these aggressive tactics. We must stand together for a Minnesota where political differences are settled at the ballot box—not on our doorstep.”
