A violent street fight outside a restaurant in Newport, Wales has led to seven arrests — and some jaw-dropping footage now circulating online.
According to Gwent Police, six men ranging in age from 25 to 52, along with a 17-year-old boy, were taken into custody following the brutal brawl on Friday, August 1. All seven were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, and several sustained injuries during the chaos.
The altercation took place around 3:20 p.m. on Commercial Road, a normally busy street in Newport. Authorities say officers rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a large group of men physically fighting in broad daylight.
Videos from bystanders — now widely shared on social media — show a disturbing scene. Several men appear to be armed with sticks or makeshift weapons, swinging wildly outside a restaurant as bloodied individuals stumble through the fray. Screengrabs from the South Wales Argus and the Daily Mail show men with blood on their faces and arms, engaged in what looked like an all-out street battle.
While the exact cause of the brawl remains unknown, police have confirmed that four of the arrested men were taken to the hospital. Two of them have since been charged, while the others are still receiving treatment. As of Saturday, all suspects remained in custody.
“We will not tolerate anyone who acts in such a violent way on our streets or exposes members of our communities to such a horrific level of aggression,” said Chief Superintendent John Davies in a statement. “Violence in any form is completely unacceptable, and we have acted decisively in making these arrests.”
Davies also warned that speculation online about the identities of those involved could interfere with the ongoing investigation. “A live investigation is underway,” he added, urging the public to let law enforcement do its job.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Blyth echoed the call for calm and cooperation, noting that officers are still working to piece together what happened. “While there is no cause for alarm, we encourage anyone with information — especially those who were in the area between 3 and 4 p.m. — to come forward,” Blyth said.
Commercial Road has since reopened, but the disturbing footage continues to spark online debate. As the investigation unfolds, police are asking the public to avoid jumping to conclusions and to report anything they witnessed during the violent outbreak.
