STOCKHOLM – On Thursday, the Stockholm District Court will deliver its verdict against Swedish-born ISIS terrorist Osama Krayem, accused of participating in one of ISIS’s most infamous atrocities: the burning alive of Jordanian fighter pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh in 2014.
Krayem, originally from Malmö, was charged in January 2025 with serious war crimes and terrorist offenses. Prosecutors allege that Krayem helped detain and escort the captured pilot into the metal cage where he was later burned alive, an act filmed and broadcast by ISIS for propaganda.
The horrific execution took place after al-Kasasbeh’s plane was shot down near Raqqa, Syria. Prosecutors describe it as “one of the most brutal murders” carried out by ISIS. Krayem was reportedly identified in the video by a scar above his right eyebrow.
Krayem denies wrongdoing but admits being present at the scene. If convicted, he could receive his second life sentence—having already been sentenced to life for the Brussels 2016 bombings, and 30 years for the 2015 Paris attacks.
Born in 1992, Krayem was raised in Malmö’s Rosengård district and reportedly radicalized in his late teens. He joined ISIS in 2014 and quickly rose within its ranks.
His trial began in June 2025. Prosecutors seek a life sentence. After the verdict, Krayem is expected to be returned to France to continue serving his prior sentences.
