Details about the suspects in a brutal Cincinnati attack emerged, showing soft-on-crime policies at work again as a separate recidivist arrest was made in New York City following a deadly shooting.

As federal agents got involved in the investigation of the vicious mob attack on two white people late last week in Cincinnati, Ohio, details have emerged about the alleged perpetrators, including one suspect’s recent arrest. With five charged in connection with the assault, three arrests had been made by early Wednesday, including one man who was out on bail following an arrest little more than two weeks prior.
During a Tuesday public safety meeting, Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge confirmed the arrests of 34-year-old Montianez Merriweather and 24-year-old Dekyra Vernon, with both facing charges for alleged felonious assault and aggravated riot.
According to a social media post from the Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police Queen City Lodge #69, Merriweather was indicted on July 10. Rather than hold the suspect whose court records showed he had previously been convicted of aggravated robbery in 2009, bond was set at $4,000.
Of that, the suspect had only been required to post $400, 10% of the set amount, following his arrest for allegedly receiving stolen property, weapons under disability, improper transportation of a firearm, and other charges.
“This is your court system,” read the post from the Fraternal Order of Police.
Details about the cavalier approach to criminal justice emerged as a similarly disturbing report out of the Big Apple came hours after a suspect had fatally shot four people, including a police officer, at a Midtown Manhattan high-rise.
The New York Post reported that an as-yet-unidentified 42-year-old man, with more than 70 prior arrests, was taken into custody once more Tuesday afternoon in the Bronx while walking around “with what appeared to be a long gun in broad daylight.”

“The armed suspect — known to police as an emotionally disturbed individual with multiple related arrests — allegedly told cops the gun he was carrying was an air rifle,” added the authorities.
In addition to the arrests of Merriweather and Vernon, WXIX reported that 39-year-old Jermaine Matthews had also been arrested early Wednesday and charged with aggravated riot and assault for his alleged involvement in the Cincinnati attack.
Meanwhile, as public officials reacted to the “UNREAL” extent that federal involvement was required in the case, it was reported that four members of the Cincinnati Police Department had brought a suit against Theetge in May for alleged “intentional and discriminatory practices.”
The suit claimed that the male plaintiffs, a captain and three lieutenants, “suffered harm” as well as “emotional distress” and damage to their professional reputations after the department allegedly offered favorable treatment to women and minorities.
As for the three suspects in the beating, their arraignment had been set for 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton County Municipal Court.
