A 32-year-old Ohio woman is facing a slew of charges after her missing boyfriend’s body was discovered in a river months after he vanished.
Dy’mond Vaden has been indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury on two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, and additional charges including tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, and possession of a weapon while under disability. She is accused of killing 32-year-old George Cox Jr., who was reported missing in November 2024.
According to prosecutors, Cox’s family last heard from him around October 19, 2024, and officially reported him missing on November 8. Police launched a search, focusing on a Cleveland apartment Cox reportedly shared with Vaden. When officers arrived, they found the unit mostly empty — with little furniture and what appeared to be blood on the floor.
Investigators later confirmed it was Cox’s blood, and Vaden had already moved out.
The case went cold until May 15, 2025, when two kayakers made a grim discovery in a shallow part of the Huron River. Wrapped in a fitted bed sheet and bound with marine rope was the body of George Cox Jr. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, and DNA quickly confirmed the identity.
Further investigation connected Vaden to the killing. Bloodstains on clothing recovered from her residence matched Cox’s DNA, and the bed sheets found in her old apartment matched the one his body had been wrapped in. Phone records and other forensic evidence reportedly tied her to the crime as well.
Police arrested Vaden on July 21 at a new home she was sharing with 41-year-old Emmanuel McQueen Jr. Officers allegedly found a firearm during the arrest. McQueen has also been indicted for having a weapon while under disability.
Authorities have not yet revealed how Cox died.
“George Cox Jr.’s family has waited for answers, and today they are one step closer to justice,” said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley. “Fortunately for his family and the State of Ohio, CDP Homicide detectives are well-trained and smarter than Dy’mond Vaden thinks.”
A court date for Vaden has not yet been announced.
