President Donald Trump and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi aren’t messing around with Democrats and their politics, and they just proved that in an epic, massive way regarding the appointment of Alina Habba to serve as New Jersey’s top prosecutor.
According to the New York Post, Habba was initially appointed as the New Jersey US attorney before a panel of mostly Democrat-appointed judges voted against her serving in that role. But Trump and Bondi found a quick way to fight back.Â
Habba was picked for the interim role back in March, and anti-Trump politicians and judges worked overtime to ensure that she wouldn’t serve in the role, ultimately firing her and replacing her with the First Assistant.
However, Habba and team Trump decided to play chess and found a brilliant workaround that allowed Habba to stay in the role.
What’s going on?
After the panel of Garden State judges voted against Habba staying in the role, she was replaced by First Assistant US Attorney in New Jersey Desiree Leigh Grace.
Upon the first assistant’s appointment, AG Bondi immediately fired her, saying the Trump administration does “not tolerate rogue judges.”
That was a brilliant play, as Trump and Bondi had the power to pick another first assistant, which they used to choose Habba, because once a US attorney is fired, the first assistant replaces that person.
The Post noted:
A DOJ official explained to multiple outlets Thursday that Trump withdrew Habba’s nomination to be the state’s US attorney and that she was appointed first assistant US attorney, replacing Grace, and allowing Habba to become acting US attorney of New Jersey.
Habba’s temporary appointment was supposed to result in a permanent job, but it requires Senate confirmation. Some Democrats in the Senate blocked the confirmation process, which left the decision to extend her temporary role up to a panel of New Jersey judges.
Trump’s workaround will allow her to serve in the capacity until they figure out how to bypass the blockade in the Senate for her hopeful confirmation.
Habba reacts
Habba took a victory lap on her X account after it was confirmed that she will remain — for the time being — New Jersey’s top prosecutor.
Donald J. Trump is the 47th President. Pam Bondi is the Attorney General. And I am now the Acting United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey,” she wrote, adding, “I don’t cower to pressure. I don’t answer to politics. This is a fight for justice. And I’m all in.”

Only time will tell if she will eventually be confirmed in the upper chamber.
