A deadly shooting has prompted the University of New Mexico to issue a shelter in place on its Albuquerque central campus on Friday morning.
Officials said UNM police received a report of gunshots fired at Casas del Rio (Gila) student housing center, located at 420 Redondo Dr NE, on Friday. Responding officers discovered two individuals had been shot. One victim died, and the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect remains at large and may still be on campus, UNM said in the alert.
A Lobo Alert announcing the shelter in place was sent out on social media around 6:17 a.m. local time, and officials asked people to avoid the central campus, which was closed.
