WEST MELBOURNE, FL – A 22-year-old man is confronting serious charges after allegedly killing his grandparents and injuring a neighbor in a tragic incident that unfolded in a Brevard County neighborhood.
Authorities have charged Jeremiah Campbell with murder following the shooting that erupted at his grandparents’ home in West Melbourne. The situation escalated as Campbell pursued his grandfather across the street, where further violence ensued, resulting in the injury of a 25-year-old neighbor.
Witnesses describe the scene as chaotic and terrifying. Terry French, a nearby resident, recounted the aftermath, pointing out bullet holes that riddled his front door. “It was shocking. Those shots went right through,” he said, visibly shaken.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call on Washington Street Wednesday night. George White, Campbell’s grandfather, had sought refuge at French’s residence, desperately seeking help after his wife, Mary White, was shot.
George White was fatally shot despite attempts to barricade the entrance. French’s granddaughter, who was inside the home and attempted to call 911, was also injured during the ordeal.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey confirmed the deaths of Mary and George White, expressing sorrow over the loss of longstanding community members. “They were beloved by many,” he remarked.
Terry French, reflecting on his neighbors’ character, described George White as a generous and kind-hearted individual. “He was probably one of the best neighbors I ever had,” French said, his voice tinged with grief.
French’s granddaughter has since been released from the hospital, though the emotional scars remain. “It’s going to be a long road to recovery for her,” French noted.
Jeremiah Campbell is currently held at the Brevard County Jail without bond. He faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, with an initial court appearance scheduled for tomorrow.
