MAGA firebrand Alina Habba has officially been appointed as the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey.
The announcement follows a series of rapid developments involving her previous interim role, a judicial attempt to replace her and a subsequent override by the Trump administration.
Habba had served as the interim U.S. Attorney in New Jersey for 120 days.
Her term was set to expire this week.
Resist the Mainstream reported this week that when that deadline arrived, judges from the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey selected a new attorney to take her place.
The judges appointed Desiree Grace as Habba’s successor earlier this week.
That move appeared to signal the end of Habba’s role as the top federal prosecutor in the state. However, events quickly changed course.
Attorney General Pam Bondi stepped in and removed Grace from the post shortly after her appointment.
Habba was then reappointed as Acting U.S. Attorney, this time under a legal provision that allows her to serve for up to 210 more days.
The White House withdrew Habba’s pending nomination for the permanent position on Thursday.
That withdrawal enabled the administration to bypass the judicial appointment process and place Habba back in the role as Acting U.S. Attorney, per The Post Millennial (TPM).
In a statement posted to X, Habba said, “Donald J. Trump is the 47th President. Pam Bondi is the Attorney General. And I am now the Acting United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey. I don’t cower to pressure. I don’t answer to politics.”
“This is a fight for justice. And I’m all in.”
The timing of the White House’s withdrawal of her nomination was strategic, according to reporting by the New York Times.
It reset the appointment process and gave the administration legal authority to reinstall her without judicial approval.
A spokesperson for the White House confirmed the president’s support for Habba in an official statement.
“President Trump continues to have full confidence in Alina Habba and her commitment to serve the people of New Jersey,” the statement read.
The administration’s action followed a decision by New Jersey district judges not to extend Habba’s interim appointment.
Instead, the judges selected Grace, who was then promptly removed from office.
TPM noted that Attorney General Bondi accused the judiciary of acting with political bias in attempting to replace Habba.
Bondi stated, “The First Assistant United States Attorney in New Jersey has just been removed.”
“This Department of Justice does not tolerate rogue judges — especially when they threaten the President’s core Article II powers.”
Habba, after being removed from her interim position, briefly served as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney.
Following Grace’s removal, she was named the Acting U.S. Attorney again, now with an extended timeline of 210 days in the position.
Habba has close ties to President Trump, having previously served as his personal attorney in multiple legal proceedings.
Her reappointment has been viewed by Trump’s supporters as a move to ensure loyal legal leadership in a key jurisdiction.
