A handwritten message from Donald Trump to Jeffrey Epstein has surfaced.
It reportedly shows the current president once described the convicted sex offender as “the greatest” in a personal inscription.
The message appeared in Trump’s 1997 book “Trump: The Art of the Comeback,” which he personally signed for Epstein in October of that year.
The New York Times obtained and published a photograph of the handwritten note.
The inscription reads “To Jeff – You are the greatest!” and bears Trump’s signature along with the date October 1997.
This revelation emerges amid growing scrutiny over Trump’s connections to Epstein’s infamous 50th birthday book project.
Trump had previously denied participating in the commemorative volume.
The Times reported that Trump appeared on the contributors list for the birthday book, which was organized by Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former associate who later faced her own legal troubles.
Former President Bill Clinton also reportedly contributed to Epstein’s 50th birthday book, according to Wall Street Journal reporting on Thursday.
Clinton’s handwritten message read “It’s reassuring isn’t it, to have lasted as long, across all the years of learning and knowing, adventures and [illegible word], and also to have your childlike curiosity, the drive to make a difference and the solace of friends.”
A Clinton spokesperson declined comment but referenced previous statements indicating Clinton severed ties with Epstein more than a decade before the financier’s 2019 arrest.
The Daily Mail outlined that Clinton has maintained he remained unaware of allegations against Epstein, who died by suicide in his jail cell while awaiting trial on child sex trafficking charges.
Maxwell wrote a letter explaining the birthday book’s purpose, stating the project aimed to “gather stories and old photographs to jog your memory about places, people and different events.”
She told Epstein in the letter that some contributions “will definitely achieve their intended goal” while others would require reading “to see for yourself.”
Maxwell expressed hope that Epstein would “derive so much pleasure looking through it as I did putting it together for you.”
The contributor list included other prominent figures such as former Victoria’s Secret owner Leslie H. Wexner, Wall Street executive Alan C. Greenberg and Nobel Prize-winning physicist Murray Gell-Mann.
Trump responded to the story’s publication with a post on Truth Social, characterizing the coverage as a distraction from his administration’s accomplishments.
“The Radical Left Democrats are doing everything in their power to distract and obfuscate from our GREAT six months of service to America,” Trump wrote, calling it “the BEST six months in Presidential history.”
He described the coverage as “another Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax” conducted “under the guise of what we will call the Jeffrey Epstein SCAM.”
Trump predicted that future revelations would expose what he termed “yet another Democrat CON JOB” and called for the release of grand jury files to end what he characterized as a hoax.
The president has worked to convince supporters that promised information about Epstein files represents a hoax designed to undermine his presidency. However, some supporters remain skeptical after additional reporting emerged about Trump’s alleged contributions to the birthday book.
The Journal reported last week that Trump allegedly submitted a hand-drawn picture of a naked woman with accompanying text for the birthday collection.
The drawing reportedly featured the outline of a woman with marker-drawn arcs indicating breasts and a signature reading “Donald” in the pubic region.
The alleged contribution included typewritten text reading “Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret” and contained an imaginary conversation between Trump and Epstein.
In the fictional dialogue, “Donald” supposedly wrote “We have certain things in common, Jeffrey,” with “Jeffrey” responding “Yes we do, come to think of it.”
The conversation continued with “Donald” stating “Enigmas never age, have you noticed that” and “Jeffrey” replying “as a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you.”
Trump vehemently denied these allegations and filed a lawsuit the following day against the journalists, publication and media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
The lawsuit seeks at least $10 billion on each of two defamation counts, though Trump would need to meet the demanding “actual malice” standard required for public figures in defamation cases. This is according to Daily Mail reporting.
This standard requires proving the publication knew the article was false or acted with reckless disregard for truth.
Trump categorically rejected any involvement in creating the alleged drawing or text, stating “This is not me. This is a fake thing. It’s a fake Wall Street Journal story.”
He emphasized that he never “wrote a picture” in his life and does not “draw pictures of women,” calling the language and words uncharacteristic of his communication style.
