President Donald Trump paid tribute to wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, who tragically passed away on Thursday.
Hogan was known for his legendary status in the wrestling world, specifically the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) organization.
The sports icon passed away in his Florida home at the age of 71. Reports indicate that he fell into cardiac arrest.
Trump reacted to the news by releasing a heartfelt statement on Truth Social.
“We lost a great friend today, the ‘Hulkster.’ Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way — Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart,” Trump said.
The president also pointed out Hogan’s energizing speech during the Republican National Convention (RNC) last year.
“He gave an absolutely electric speech at the Republican National Convention, that was one of the highlights of the entire week. He entertained fans from all over the World, and the cultural impact he had was massive. To his wife, Sky, and family, we give our warmest best wishes and love. Hulk Hogan will be greatly missed!” he said.
As Trending Politics noted, Hogan’s tragic passing comes a year after his fiery speech at the RNC, which came just days after an assassin’s bullet came within inches of ending Trump’s life.
In his iconic wrestling persona voice, Hogan told the crowd, “Let me tell you something, brother!”
“Well, let me tell you something, when I came here tonight, there was so much energy in this room, I felt maybe I was in Madison Square Garden getting ready to win another world title. Or maybe I thought the vibe was so intense, the energy was so crazy, it felt like maybe I was going to press that no-good, stinky giant over my head and slam him through the mat, brother,” Hogan said.
The wrestling legend also recalled the horrifying assassination attempt against Trump at the time.
“When I look out and I see all the real Americans, I think about how Donald Trump, his family was compromised. When I look out there and I see Donald Trump, I think about how his business was compromised. But what happened last week when they took a shot at my hero and they tried to kill the next President of the United States, enough was enough. I said, ‘Let Trump-a-mania run wild, brother! Let Trump-a-mania rule again. Let Trump-a-mania, make America great again,’” he said.
Multiple conservative figures praised Hogan after finding out about his death.
Vice President J.D. Vance called Hogan a “great American icon.”
“Hulk Hogan was a great American icon. One of the first people I ever truly admired as a kid,” Vance said. “The last time I saw him we promised we’d get beers together next time we saw each other. The next time will have to be on the other side, my friend! Rest in peace.”
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) legend George St. Pierre also lauded Hogan.
“They say you should never meet your idols, but meeting Hulk Hogan made me admire him even more. He was so generous with his time and an inspiration not only as an athlete and entertainer, but also as a human being. He will be missed by us all,” St. Pierre said.
