China Hacks America’s Nuclear Defense—What’s Next?

America’s nuclear weapons program—the very backbone of our national defense—was just breached by foreign agents, and the media barely blinked. If this happened under President Trump in his first term, the headlines would scream “Treason!” and Democrats would be calling for impeachment. But now, with President Trump back in office and cleaning up the mess left behind from the Biden years, the truth is finally surfacing: our government’s cybersecurity infrastructure was left dangerously vulnerable, and foreign adversaries—specifically the Chinese Communist Party—have been exploiting it for years.

Let’s be clear: this is not just another “data breach.” This is the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)—the agency responsible for building and dismantling America’s nuclear arsenal—being hacked by Chinese state-sponsored actors. According to Microsoft, three Chinese groups—Linen Typhoon, Violet Typhoon, and Storm-2603—used a zero-day vulnerability in Microsoft SharePoint to infiltrate systems connected to the Department of Energy. This is espionage of the highest order.

And here’s the kicker: the breach was facilitated by leftover vulnerabilities from the 2020 SolarWinds hack, which was attributed to Russia and compromised hundreds of top-level U.S. government email accounts, including those at the Department of Justice. That’s right—Biden’s cybersecurity negligence from five years ago is still haunting us today. You can thank the Democrats’ obsession with pronouns and climate propaganda while ignoring actual national security.

This is what happens when you put woke ideology ahead of operational integrity. While the Biden administration was busy building “equity” task forces and lecturing Americans about “systemic racism,” they left the digital front door wide open to Chinese cyber warriors.

Now, the Department of Energy says the impact was “minimal.” But let’s not kid ourselves. When the agency in charge of nukes gets breached—even if they claim no classified information was taken—that’s not a “minimal” problem. That’s a five-alarm fire. We’re not talking about the Social Security Administration. We’re talking about the people who control the most powerful weapons on Earth.

The only reason this wasn’t worse is because the Department of Energy had already migrated most of its systems to Microsoft’s M365 cloud platform, which offered better defenses. But again, that move wasn’t made during Biden’s watch—it was part of a broader effort, long in motion, to modernize and secure federal systems that the Obama and Biden administrations had long neglected.

And what did Biden do in response to the SolarWinds hack back in 2020? He issued some empty executive orders, formed a few “cybersecurity working groups,” and then went right back to sleep. Under Trump’s leadership today, we’re finally seeing those vulnerabilities addressed seriously—but the damage from the last administration is still being uncovered.

What’s even more disturbing is that China has clearly escalated its digital aggression. They’re not just spying—they’re targeting our most sensitive national defense infrastructure. And they’re doing it while funneling money into American universities, buying up farmland near military bases, and flooding our country with fentanyl. If that’s not a comprehensive attack on American sovereignty, I don’t know what is.

Microsoft has issued guidance and patches, which is great. But that’s like putting out a house fire with a garden hose after the roof’s already collapsed. The real issue is the lack of accountability for the years of neglect that allowed this to happen.

Under President Trump’s renewed leadership, it’s time to take the gloves off. We need a massive overhaul of our cyber defenses, a purge of compromised systems, and a no-compromise approach to dealing with hostile foreign powers. That means sanctions. That means cyber retaliation. And yes, that means holding every federal agency to the highest standards of security—no more excuses, no more delays.

China just breached the gates. The only question now is whether we fight back with the resolve of a sovereign superpower—or keep pretending that “diversity training” is national security.
